Welcome to the South Gippsland Game Fishing Club. We are a family orientated fishing club located in Leongatha Victoria and have a good mix of single and family members of all ages. The Club has a long history and played a big part in the formation of the Gamefishing Association of Victoria.

The Club is based in Leongatha and has members from many parts of Victoria. Our location is not far from some of the best fishing Victoria has to offer, such as Corner Inlet, Bass Strait, Port Albert, Shallow Inlet, Andersons Inlet, Waratah Bay and Westernport. The Club's fishing is not restricted to these areas with Club waters extending from south of the N.S.W northern border to the eastern W.A border

The Club is affiliated with the Game Fishing Association of Victoria (GFAV) and Game Fishing Association of Australia (GFAA) and fishes under the guidelines of these Associations.

We organise competitions throughout the year, with regular events during peak times. Our competitions take us to locations including Port Welshpool, Bass Strait, Westernport, Shallow Inlet, Port Albert and other interesting fishing locations. Our members also roam far and wide to locations such as Portland, Port Macdonnell and Bermagui in their quest for those elusive record catches.

Member Reports for Sunday 23 February 2020

From Joel Bacon - Fished with @Craig Kerr on the Trophy heading out from Newhaven  at around 6am. Headed out front and made our way around to Seal Rocks  where we set up a spread of 3 skirts and 1 XRap diver. Trolled at around  6.5 Knots west along the 50 metre line for the next few hours reaching  Port Phillip Heads late morning before turning around. To this point we  had seen no action from birds or bait fish (and even worse I’d finished  all my sandwiches!) for the return trip we headed in to around 30 meters  and at around Blairgowrie spotted a large number of boats heading all  over the place, spent a little time trolling around the area only to  find small numbers of bait fish on the sounder and no action ( still no  sandwiches in site). We pushed on toward Cape Shank and came across  acres of mutton birds feeding on bait fish. After a frantic 20 minutes  we had boated 6 mutton birds and no fish. We pushed on toward Cape Shank  and about 500m from the cape boated a small rat kingfish out of  nowhere. The rest of the afternoon passed by with a few schools of fish  appearing on the surface and the mutton birds descending on top of them  before we could even get close. Fair to say the Tuna were playing hard to get but still a great day to troll 170km in the sun shine. Thanks Craig Kerr for the invite, looks like I’ve cursed your boat too now!

From Richard Allan - We fished out from Cliffy, got 12 squid, filled the bait tank with  yakkas from Rabbit Island and headed out to chase gummies. No gummies  but a nice little snapper and 6 port Jackson’s. Then we headed over to  Cliffy to chase some kingfish late afternoon , only two other boats  around and we got one nice one 8.5kg on live yakka. Plenty of fish  busting up but hard to keep up with. All up good day on the water.
